Controversy over appointing Junior Swamiji, Shiroor Swamiji files Caveat against other Swamijis
Udupi: The controversy between the Asta Matadeeshs and the Shiroor Swamiji has now entered the court. The Shiroor Swamiji, Sri Lakshmivara Theertha, has filed a caveat in the district court against the Asta Matadeeshs.
The Swamiji of Asta Math took part in a meeting held under the leadership of the Pejawar Math Swamiji on Monday, July 2 night and decided that the presiding deity, which is currently under the possession of Palimaru Swamiji Sri Vidhyadheesha Theertha Swamiji, would be handed over to the Shiroor Math Swamiji Sri Lakshmivara Theertha only after he appoints a junior Swamiji. Shiroor Math Swamiji Sri Lakshmivara Theertha has decided to move the court against the decision of the other Swamijis.
As per the caveat, the other Swamijis will not give any statement against the Shiroor Swamiji and should not conduct any meetings in the Sri Krishna Math. The caveat will be valid for over 90 days. By filing the caveat, Shiroor Swamiji has tied the hands of the Pejawar and other Swamijis. The Shiroor Swamiji has also eluded any controversy of appointing the junior Swamiji for 90 days.
Speaking to media persons, Shiroor Swamiji said, “When I was suffering from illness, I had given the Shiroor Math’s presiding deity ‘Sri Anna Vittala’ to the Junior Swamiji of Adamar Math to perform the puja. It is a rule in the Asta Math that the respective Swamiji should perform the puja to the presiding deity of their Maths every day. But now, the Junior Swamiji of Adamar Math and other Swamijis have cheated me by not returning the presiding deity Sri Anna Vittala.”
“The presiding deity Sri Anna Vittala is the property of Shiroor Math. They cannot keep it with them or refuse to give it back. Once I had gone and asked them, but they did not hand it over, henceforth I will not request them for it. They themselves had taken it from our Math and it is their responsibility to return it,” he said.
Illness is a vague descriptor. Election fever?
