Cop Missing from Bengaluru Traced in Mangaluru Jail!
Mangaluru: Sandesh, a constable serving in Mahalaxmi layout police station and residing in Sanjeevinagar in Bengaluru, had gone missing some time ago. His wife Pavitra soon thereafter filed a complaint to the police. His whereabouts were not known to anyone.
The distressed wife, all of a sudden received a call earlier this week, conveying a message that she should not worry about him as he was safe. At the same time, she was asked to forget about him.
Totally perplexed, Pavitra went to the police station again and explained the story. When the origin of the mobile phone call was investigated, it was traced to, of all the places, the district jail in Mangaluru.
Investigations here by the Barke police revealed that he had come to the city in early April. To earn his livelihood, he decided to take up thieving. On April 12, he had snatched a gold chain from a woman in Kodialbail, on the pretext of asking for drinking water. The woman had filed a complaint at the Barke police station.
Sandesh was arrested from the KSRTC bus-stand, possibly while trying to leave the city, on April 14. He had given wrong details like his name as Hullur and hometown as Chamarajanagar. Since then, he has been in judicial custody.
In Bengaluru also he used to be irregular in attending to duties, according to police sources. He had some issues within the family and hence wanted to leave home permanently. After arriving in Mangaluru, for sustenance, he took up stealing.
Whether he had indulged in any other thefts is yet to be known. How he managed to use a mobile phone from inside the jail in spite of strict monitoring and also with a jammer in operation will also have to be investigated.
