Coronavirus: UAE reports 342 new Covid-19 cases, 667 recoveries

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Monday reported 342 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 667 new recoveries.

This brings the total number of cases to 42,636 in the country and the number of recoveries reaching 28,129.

The authority also announced the death of two people as a result of the illness, bringing the total number of deaths to 291 in the country. The death toll has a high number of those who had diabetes.

“As we always affirm, the implementation of precautionary measures is one of the main factors to combat the spread of virus. 40 per cent of the deceased had diabetes. All those with chronic diseases especially diabetes have to adhere to precautionary measures”, Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government said.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development in UAE has also launched a special platform. This platform can identify the need of government buildings and facilities based on its proximity to residential buildings.

The platform has 4 smart tools that can offer decision-makers realtime data to take accurate decisions efficiently. The tools are:-

1- Interactive maps
2-The facilities monitor
3-Demographic maps – interactive spatial maps
4-Sterilisation monitor

The smart platform helps decision-making based on realtime data.

The UAE’s rigorous and mass testing exercise coupled with intense treatment is showing positive results. The number of new infections has seen a remarkable decline recently.

Earlier today, it was announced that movement restrictions on entering and exiting Abu Dhabi and travelling between its regions have been extended for another one week starting from June 16.

The movement restrictions in Abu Dhabi were first introduced on June 2 to ensure mass Covid-19 testing in order to contain the spread of the virus. Authorities announced that, during the past two weeks, more than 388,000 residents of the emirate were tested for the coronavirus.

Covid-19 recovery rates in the UAE have been increasing steadily, leading to a significant drop in the number of active cases. On Saturday, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the country fell to 14,941, slipping below the 15,000-mark for the first time since May 27, 2020. The country has seen an 11 per cent decrease in the number of active cases as compared to a week ago (16,932).

Meanwhile, the UAE government has approved a new system to issue bonuses to workers in emergency sectors, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced. Sheikh Mohammed stressed that he was proud of the UAE community. “Both citizens and residents supported the government and showed great societal awareness in adhering to the precautionary instructions against the spread of Covid-19. This guarantees that the UAE will achieve the best recovery once the Covid-19 crisis is over,” he said.
