COVID – 19: Central Market Merchants Association Creates Awareness among Vendors
Mangaluru: The COVID – 19 has created fear among the people around the world. The government has also taken all the necessary measures to control the spread of Coronavirus in the country as well as in the state and district. MCC has issued guidelines to all the Supermarkets/Malls, Hotels, Gyms/ parks, Residential apartments, Hotels/ PGs and the general public. In this connection, the members of the Central Market Merchants Association initiated an awareness drive on March 19 at the fruit and vegetable market and requested all the vendors to keep their premises clean.
President Mustafa along with other members visited every vendor in the market and advised them to keep their area clean.
Speaking to mangalorean.com President of Central Market Merchants Association Mustafa Kunhi said, “We have started creating awareness among the vendors to keep their premises clean. The Corona Virus has already ruined the lives of many people around the world. People in Italy neglected the government initiative to contain the spread of the Coronavirus and now the situation there is worse with the whole country being affected by the coronavirus. We should all do our best to control the spread of the virus.”
Mustafa further said, “We are selling fruits and vegetables in the market and people come and purchase from us. We should also think of the safety of our customers by keeping the premises clean. As part of the awareness drive that we have initiated, today we visited all the shops in and around the market and requested them to keep their area clean by disposing of the rotten fruits and vegetables and the waste immediately”.
Honourary President of CMMA Ahmed Bava said, “This is an initiative to keep the market premises clean because from the past 1 month the Coronavirus has spread around the world. Places that maintain cleanliness, like the shopping malls etc are closed to control the spread of coronavirus but some places that are very dirty and can facilitate the spread of the virus are still open. Some vendors only think of their business. It is necessary to create awareness among the vendors in and around the market in controlling the spread of the Coronavirus. MCC officials will be soon inspecting the Vegetable and fruit market and other places in the city and take appropriate action. CMMA is not responsible for any fines imposed by the MCC officials. We have already distributed pamphlets to more than 400 vendors to take necessary measures in controlling the spread of the Coronavirus”.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Secretary of CMMA Jayaprakash Salian said, “The coronavirus has spread around the world and in Karnataka, the government has closed the Malls but street vendors who sell vegetables, fruits and fast food still continue their business. Why is MCC not taking action against them? The MCC has put restrictions on everyone but why can’t they stop the street vendors is a million-dollar question? I request the concerned authorities to take strict action in this regard.”
When asked about some people picking disposed of vegetables and selling them, Mustafa said, “We have already complained to the MCC officials but no action has been taken so far.”
