CPI(M) demands Rs 10 lakh Compensation for Praveen Family

Udupi: The Communist Party of India Udupi Unit staged a protest at the Clock Tower, near Service Bus-stand on August 19, condemning the incident of the brutal attack and murder of BJP activist Praveen Poojary by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike members.

K Shanker state member of CPI (M) addressing the protesters said that, in the name of Gau Raksha, Hindu outfits are playing with the lives of minorities and Dalits. The police department and the state government should take strict action against these Gau Rakshaks. The state government should take Praveen Poojary’s death seriously. These days attacks on Dalits and minorities have increased. The common people are not safe in the state. When there is a clear message of the consequences to people taking the law into their hands, then only these type of attacks can be brought under control, he added.

The protesters demanded the state government to announce Rs 10 lakh as compensation and give justice to the family members of BJP activist who was brutally attacked and killed by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike members.

Balakrishna Shetty secretary CPI(M), party leaders Vishwanath Rai, Mahabala Vaderhobli, H Narashima, Suresh Kallagara, Shekar Bangera, Kaviraj, Sujatha, Nalini, Vittal Poojary and others were present.
