Cremation of COVID-19 Victims to be Done at Boloor Crematorium – MLA Vedavyas
Mangaluru: “The bodies of those who die of COVID-19 will be cremated at the Boloor electric crematorium. According to the guidelines of the Health Department, there won’t be any problems when the bodies of COVID-19 victims are cremated at the Boloor electric crematorium”, said MLA Vedavyas Kamath during a meeting held with the concerned officials on April 25.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, “Recently when the 50-year-old woman had died of COVID-19, her body was cremated at the Boloor crematorium, but the locals had protested against it. When the body of the second victim who died on April 23 was taken to Pachanady for cremation, locals there protested. People due to lack of knowledge about COVID-19 are confused. The government constructed the Boloor electric crematorium which belongs to the Mangaluru City Corporation”.
MLA Vedavyas further said, “Due to the lack of knowledge about COVID-19, the wrong information was spread through the social media and since people protested against cremating the body. I have clearly explained to the residents in Boloor, the scientific reasons for cremating the COVID-19 victim’s body there and they have understood it very well. Hereafter the district administration can follow the guidelines of the health department in cremating the bodies of COVID-19 victims at the Boloor crematorium.”
MAL Vedavyas also urged the doctors to educate the public about the COVID-19 Pandemic through the media and take precautions by maintaining social distance. He urged the people to join hands with the government and the district administration to fight against COVID-19.
Mayor Diwakar, AC Madan Mohan, MCC Member Jagadish Shetty Boloor and Tahsildar Guruparasad were also present.
