Cricket body for blind plans friendly in J&K

New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS) The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) on Saturday announced that it plans to hold a friendly match in November in trouble-prone Jammu & Kashmir, as a precursor to the T20 World Cup for the blind scheduled in January in the country.

The announcement was made on Saturday by CABI president Mahantesh G.K. after the national team, which has won several international tournaments, including the recent T-20 Asia Cup Tournament, was felicitated by Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment here.

“I urge the Government of India to consider our proposal to organise a match in Jammu & Kashmir. We will organise the match at a place convenient to the J&K Government through its sports council,” Mahantesh said.

“This match will be a huge morale booster for the youths of that state apart from expressing our solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces and the people of J&K,” he added.

He pointed out that CABI will involve representatives of the government, Indian Armed Forces, people’s representatives and the youths of J&K in the cricket matche.

Mahantesh urged the government to take active interest in organising the cricket match in J&K. He also requested the government to monetarily support CABI in successfully hosting the T20 World Cup in 2017.
