Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh has done a lot for society – Msgr Baptist Menezes
Udupi: The Annual General Body meeting and Convention of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh (CSUP) was held at St Mary’s English School premises, Kannarapadi here on Sunday, June 12. The programme began with an invocation. President of Catholic Sabha Udupi deanery, Charles Quadros welcomed the gathering. Msgr Baptist Menezes, Vicar General of Udupi Diocese, inaugurated the convention by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural message, Msgr Baptist Menezes said that CSUP is among the top laity association in the diocese. He showered praises on the good work rendered by the Catholic Sabha. “Last year, the Catholic Sabha has done lot of good work in our diocese to enlighten people on government facilities. It had units in almost all churches under the diocese. It should rise to the occasion whenever the community is in trouble. It should keep itself active in social and community service activities in coming years too,” he added.
Former president of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh Dr Thomas Quadros, and Ronald D’Souza (entrepreneur Dubai) explained the Catholic Sabha’s role in the society. They gave their opinions and the need of CS for the community in various circumstances. CS is one of the strongest organizations of Catholic laity who need strong support from community leaders for the welfare of the people, they said.
Veronica Corenelio, Chariperson of KSDL Bengaluru, in her message appreciated the role of CS for communities with the intention of service, sacrifice, unity.
Fr Fred Mascharenhas, dean of Udupi deanery, released the directory for the year 2016-17. Wilson D’Souza (ZP member), Michael Ramesh D’Souza and Violet Baretto (TP members), Melwin D’Souza Shirva, Renita Preema D’Souza Belle (Grama Panchayat members), Glevan D’Souza Padukone, Royston Vijay Castelino Nakre (national-level sports achievers), Daina Rodrigues (social worker) and Dr Gerald Pinto (Principal, Milagres College Kallianpur) were honoured on the occasion. The best deaneries and units and those with the highest donation coupons sold were also honoured on the occasion.
Louis D’Almeida, Convener of Late Francis Danthi Literary award committee, introduced Fr Richard Menezes, who was felicitated with a cash award, citation, shawl and flowers. Precilla Alva presented the 2015-16 general body meeting report while Alice Rodrigues present the annual report. Treasurer Alwyn Quadros presented annual account details. Henry Menezes (president of Manasa Pamboor) presented a report of Manasa, while Walter Cyril Pinto presented the report of Sashakth Samudaya Seva Trust.
William Machado, president of Catholic Sabha, presided over the meeting and convention. Valerian Fernandes (new president), Elroy Kiran Crasto (Outgoing president), Alphose D’Costa (former president), Flavy D’Souza (president, Mangalore diocese), Walter D’Souza (new president of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Diocese), Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves (Spiritual Director) and others were present.
