Culture in Full Display as 5 Academies Meet in Madikeri
Madikeri: It was a memorable event marking the convergence of five languages and cultures from around the western coast in Madikeri on Tuesday.
Kodava, Arebhashe, Tulu, Konkani and Beary Academies got their act together to share with each other their rich cultural heritage. A grand procession preceding the event was signalled off by district deputy commissioner Mir Anees Ahmed by firing a traditional gunshot in the air.
Kodava men and women, attired in their ethnic wear, Arebhashe community’s tableau depicting horse-mounted freedom-fighter Guddemane Appaiah Gowda, wedding entourage of the Konkani Christian community, Kambala, Boota Kola and Yakshagana tableaus representing the Tulu culture and Beary community’s ‘daff’ troupe – everyone of them drew special attention.
The presidents of five academies, office-bearers and artistes were present on the occasion. At the meeting venue, leaders of all five groups spoke on their respective language, literature and culture.
Credit should go to the Kodava and Arebhashe Academies based in Madikeri for organizing the event.
