Cupcakes and Charity! ‘Bake Sale’ to Raise Funds for Cansurvive by FMMC

Mangaluru: Organizing a bake sale is an excellent way to raise money, especially for charity. Bake sales are easy to organize, easy on the pocket, and fun to do. With nothing more than a small team of people, a dedication to a good cause, and some planning and baking, you can have a successful bake sale of your own. I especially love bake sales because they mean you can make a difference even if you only have the cost of a cookie or a cupcake to donate. And for that matter a bake sale organized by a bevy of staff and students of Fr Muller Medical College-Mangaluru as part of their ‘Cansurvive’ project at City Centre Mall-Mangaluru on Republic Day from 11 am until 7 pm attracted a whole lot of people and ended up in good sales and good money- all for a good cause.

CanSurvive Campaign is an initiative by the staff and students of Father Muller Medical College Hospital designed to create awareness as well as raise funds for patients with curable cancer. CanSurvive campaign kicked off with the Lavender Ribbon Drive on January 22nd, The lavender ribbons were a sign of support towards creating awareness for curable cancer where people have to wear them from Jan 22nd till February 11 as a part of the campaign. The ribbons were made available across more than 20 associate partner stores in the city, and it was a successful beginning of this campaign.

Who doesn’t like a good bake sale? Home baked goodies from cookies to cakes, fudge brownies and cupcakes. What’s not to love? And especially this Bake Sale, with the bake products from Crave Bakes and Desserts, Dinoo’s and Baker’s Treat, the three popular pastry shacks in town, which were put on sale to raise money for this campaign- who wouldn’t patronize such a fundraising bake sale.? Apart from the sale of cupcakes and other goodies, the event also featured nail painting by Sancha Nazareth, live acoustic guitar performance by Shawn Rego, games and Ground spot Fitness Gym team conducting a health and fitness round, challenging people to perform some cardio and core workout!

The star attraction of the evening was Shawn Rego, who gave a mind-blowing performance plucking the chords on his acoustic guitar and rendering some of the best Western numbers from oldies to new, which enthralled the crowd and who gave a rousing applaud and some even asking for encores. His performance also gave a chance for some of the spectators to get on the floor and jive! Good show, buddy! The bake sale just didn’t have the sale of cookies and cakes, there was also the sale of handmade jewellery created by FMMC student Dr Roshni Rajan. Added attraction was Polaroid camera pictures booth. Nicholas pinto, a student of St. Aloysius along with his group crazy antics gave a mesmerizing dance performance.

Named as the “Nightingale of Mangaluru” Jacqueline Fernandes also performed a couple of famous songs, followed by another of Kudla’s favourite singer Munita Veigas Roa. The event also saw an Enfield Bike Rally at 4.30 pm.The event was professionally compered by FMMC student Jane Esha, and Nikita Crasta also helped out in clicking few memorable images. To sum it all, the Bake sale was yet another Successful project of Cansurvive Campaign.
