Curfew Continues, Mangaluru Peaceful, No untoward Incidents in City – Dr Harsha

Mangaluru: “On December 19 the curfew was imposed in the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate, no untoward incidents have been reported. Mangaluru city is peaceful, we have deployed the necessary police force in all the sensitive areas. The situation in all areas is being assessed by respective station heads. Our police personnel working round the clock to maintain the law and order. Today the Muslim community leaders had requested to revoke the curfew for prayers and the curfew was relaxed from 12 noon to 2:00 pm”, said police commissioner Dr Harsha in a press meet held at his office here on December 20.

When asked how many persons were injured Dr Harsha said, “Thirty-three police personnel were injured, some have grievous injuries. We have registered cases in various police stations. So far we have arrested 7 people and on available evidence after verification action will be taken. In the South police station 2 cases and in the North 5 cases have been registered.”

When asked why the Kerala Journalists were detained? Are you afraid of critical coverage? Will you arrest all of us if we don’t have accreditation? Dr Harsha said, “Today morning some persons were claiming to be journalists, they were asked to produce their accreditation cards which they failed to provide. We had written to the concerned authorities to verify whether they were journalists. After obtaining necessary information they were taken and dropped at the Kasargod police station safely”.

When asked whether it was true that some persons from Kerala who had tried to enter the Wenlock hospital were detained? Dr Harsha said, “We had detained 8 persons and they were dropped to their respective places safely. When the curfew is in force, anyone found without a valid reason will be questioned”.

When asked about relaxing the curfew tomorrow, December 21 morning for people to purchase necessary commodities, Dr Harsha said, “We will review the situation and surely do the needful.”
