Curfew Relaxed in Mangaluru from 3 to 6 pm Today, Tomorrow No Curfew till 6 pm – CM

Mangaluru: Curfew will be relaxed from 3:00 to 6:00 pm today December 21 and will continue from 6:00 pm. Tomorrow, December 22 morning the curfew will be relaxed until 6:00 pm and will continue from 6:00 pm to midnight. From Monday, December 23 there will be no curfew, but section 144 will continue”, said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on December 21.

Addressing the mediapersons CM Yediyurappa said, “I have now reviewed the situation in Mangaluru and met the minority leaders and discussed the situation with them. We have also discussed giving compensation to the families of the deceased. After discussing the situation with the police officers I have asked them to relax the curfew from 3:00 to 6:00 pm today. On 22nd December curfew will be relaxed for the entire day but will be imposed from 6:00 pm to midnight.”

CM Yediyurappa further said, “Christian and Muslim leaders met me today and requested to relax the curfew. Whatever happened in Mangaluru is not good. Christmas is nearing and the Christians are preparing to celebrate the festival. I have strictly advised the police officers not to disturb the people but to co-operate with them. Section 144 will continue, the police should not trouble the people celebrating their festivals or marriages. I am on an emergency visit here because of the untoward incidents that have happened. In Bengaluru, Muslim leaders met me and extended their full co-operation but in Mangaluru the situation went out of control and it was necessary to impose a curfew. Some persons from Kerala had come here in the guise of journalists with the weapons and had to detained. They did not carry any identity cards”.

CM Yediyurappa also said, “The protesters tried to enter the police station where the weapons and ammunition were stored. If the police wouldn’t have taken action the protesters would have entered the weapon’s room and the situation would have been worse. In retaliation the police had to use force, we will do a proper investigation in this regard. We have discussed the incidents with the home minister and investigation will be done.”

When asked about how much compensation the government will give to the deceased, Yediyurappa said, “As per law we will give the compensation. If the families of the deceased don’t have a house we will provide them with a house.

When asked about Siddaramaiah’s tweet about the incidents in Mangaluru, CM said, “Siddaramaiah is a responsible person, he should not give irresponsible statements”.

Home Minister Basavarj Bommai, BJP State President and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLAs Umanath Kotian, Sanjeev Matandoor, Dr Bharat Shetty, Vedavyas Kamath, Harish Punja and others were also present.
