Cyclists Ride for a ‘Congestion and Pollution Free Mangaluru’
Cyclists belonging to Mangalore Cycling Club Ride for a ‘Congestion and Pollution Free Mangaluru’, organized for the First time in City jointly by Mangalore Cycling Club & “K-Lounge” on 14th May 2016 Flagged Off at 10 am.
Mangaluru: Forget Apples! Even if there is a saying that a apple a day, keeps the doctor away- but cycling a day keeps the doctor at bay. Cycling is low-impact exercise that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from young children to older adults. Regular cycling has many physical and mental health benefits. It is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of health problems such as stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity and arthritis. To be fit and healthy you need to be physically active. Riding your bicycle regularly is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle. It is also fun, cheap and good for the environment. Also riding to work or the shops is one of the most time-efficient ways to combine regular exercise with your everyday routine.

To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” had said Albert Einstein- Whether it’s to boost your fitness, health or bank balance, or as an environmental choice, taking up cycling could be one of the best decisions you ever make. Cycling will get to your destination faster than other vehicles during rush hours in the city; Cycling makes you- Sleep more deeply; Look younger; Boosts your bowels; Increases your brain power; Beats illness; Live longer; Save the planet; Heal your heart; Lose weight in the saddle; Avoid pollution; Enjoy healthy family time etc etc. So, if you’re feeling tired, take a ride!
Bicycling, along with being the most efficient mode of human locomotion, is also one of the best all-around activities for improving our health. From head to toes, cycling’s health benefits are hard to beat. Cycling is good for your heart; Cycling is good for your muscles;Cycling is good for your waistline; Cycling is good for your lifespan; Cycling is good for your coordination; Cycling is good for your mental health and Cycling is good for your immune system-it can strengthen your immune system, and could protect against certain kinds of cancers. So make cycling a part of your hobby – enjoy life and live healthy and longer. But here is a ride organized by a local cycling group for a good cause to bring awareness among the citizens of Mangaluru and beyond.
“Congestion and Pollution Free Mangaluru” drive was organized for the First time in the City this morning, Saturday 14 May 2016, jointly by Mangalore Cycling Club & “K-Lounge”, keeping in mind that Mangaluru city has recently witnessed a sudden spurt in the number of vehicles. The roads, although widened are not broad enough to accommodate this surge in vehicle population, this has enhanced traffic congestion, carbon pollution, noise pollution, no of accidents and the frustration among the commuters. Nearly 50 cyclists belonging to MCC took part in this expedition, which was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner of Police-Uday Nayak, and CCB Inspector Valentine D’Souza, right in front of ‘K-Lounge’ showroom (makers of Killer, LawmanPg3, Integriti & Easies brands) located on Balmatta Road, near Don Bosco Hall.
Prior to the flag off, both Uday Nayak and Valentine D’Souza stressed on the importance of riding the bicycle which controls the pollution, and lessens traffic chaos and congestion. It is also a very good mode of transportation which not only saves fuel but also benefits the body and health aspects, added Nayak and D’Souza. The ride which was flagged off from the K-Lounge showroom proceeded towards Hampankatta Circle, Forum Fiza Mall, KS Rao Road, City Centre Mall, Ballal Bagh, Lady Hill, Bunts Hostel Road and culminated back at K-Lounge. “I scream. You Scream, The Cyclists Scream-We all Scream for Ideal Ice Cream’- taking a short break near Pabbas Ice Cream Parlour, all the cyclists were treated for a Ideal Choco-Bar. Every cyclists at the end of their journey were presented with a wrist watch, as a courtesy from K-Lounge.
Regarding, Mangalore Cycling Club (MACC), headed by Anil Shet, has been very active in promoting cycling for fitness and sports since more than three years; they are now focusing on promoting cycling as the means of commuting within the city. Just one change in the mode of transport will actually change the face of the city. The main purpose of the rally on May 14th – covering a distance of 15km- is to create awareness among the general public and the students to take up cycling to commute within the city. K-Lounge, the promoter of eco-friendly fabrics, had sponsored the rally in support of this noble cause and also to mark the occasion of Earth Day which was on April 22nd; and also Environment Day falling on June 5th .
Mangalore Cycling Club in association with “K-Lounge” ,catering to the youth`s demands for international apparels and accessories were instrumental in the promotion of this noble cause, getting rid of the traffic bottlenecks in the city and at the same time creating healthy bodies and healthy minds and setting an example for others to follow. A message from the organizers said that a small effort from the citizens end that of promoting this cause in bringing awareness about “Congestion and Pollution Free Mangaluru” will go a long way in setting things right, it’s never too late to make a new beginning.
The event was compered by H.K.Maheshwari-member of Mangalore Cycling Club while Satish Patel of Kewal Kiran Clothing Ltd. Mumbai briefed about their unique eco-friendly clothing, and Sanjay Vasani (partner K-Lounge and JeeTee Jeans) thanked the cyclists and guests for making this project a grand success. Family members of Sanjay Vasani and well-wishers graced the occasion. Long Live Mangalore Cycle Club and K-Lounge for coming up with unique projects for the betterment of Mangaluru, in making it an eco-friendly city!
