Dacoits Decamp with 650 grams gold and cash worth Rs 14 lakh from Asranna House

Mangaluru: Unidentified armed men barged into the house of Vasudev Asranna at Giddikere and decamped with gold, cash and electronic items, here on October 4.

On October 3, night Vasudev Asranna and his family attended the Navaratri procession at the Kateel Temple. After the procession, the family members reached home at 11:30 pm. At around 12:15 am, when they were about to go to bed, they heard the doorbell. Vasudev’s wife peeped from the window and saw 8 persons outside. When she asked them why they are standing outside, one of them asked for Prasadam as one of their friends was sick. But she got suspicious of their actions and did not open the door.

While they sensed that the door would not be opened, they immediately broke open the front door and entered inside. After entering the house they threatened the family members with a revolver, rod and machetes and demanded to hand over gold and money. The group then decamped with 650 grams of gold, Rs 30,000 and electronic gadgets all worth Rs 14 lakh.

During the robbery, Asranna’s daughter informed her uncle Venkataramana Asranna about the incident. The robbers threatened her with life. After receiving the call Venkataramana Asranna reached Vasudev’s house but the robbers had already escaped with the loot. All the 8 robbers had covered their faces with masks. Due to Navaratri Puja, Asranna had stayed back in the temple as he was the priest of the Kateel Shree Durgaparameshwari temple.

Bajpe police who reached the spot have registered a case and are investigating. Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar visited the spot and have assured justice.
