Dalit Associations Demand Arrest of Accused in Assault on Community Youth
Udupi: The accused in assaulting the Koraga community youth during the engagement ceremony held in Hosadu, Kundapur should be detained and extradited said Uday Kumar Tallur. He was speaking at a protest organized in-front of the SP Office, demanding the arrest of Bajarangadal activists who had attacked the Koraga Community youth for alleged consumption of beef.
Activists of Bajarangadal had threatened the Koraga Community Members and also abused them in the name of caste. The police have failed in arresting the accused but have managed to arrest the Koraga community youth which reflects the failure of the police in giving justice to the deprived and backward classes.
Fringe elements have ruined the district with attacks on the deprived and backward classes. The government has also failed in initiating action against them. Youth are exploited in the name of religion in the district.
Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary and Congress Dalit community leader Ananth Mowadi have failed to address the issue by giving necessary legal assistance. If the police department fails to arrest the accused, a delegation of the Koraga community leaders will meet the Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar and will ask to initiate action against the police officials, he added.
Gram panchayat member Shakuntala said that the incident has created fear among the Koraga community. Politicians have failed to address the issue by remaining silent. The police department has threatened us of facing consequences if we enter the police station, she added.
Sunder Master speaking on the occasion said that no one can question our food habits, we will continue to consume the food which suits us.
Shyamraj Birthi, Dr G Rajshekar, Prof Pahniraj, Fr William Martis, Prof Cyril Mathais and others were present.
