DC Orders to Seize Unauthorized Uber and Ola Taxis
Mangaluru: DC A B Ibrahim held a road safety meeting at his office here, on July 20.
DC Ibrahim said that a deadline was given to cab drivers to submit their documents in regard to the taxi service but so far they have not submitted the same.
The DC has ordered the traffic department to seize such taxis including those belonging to Uber and Ola which operate in the city. “Taxi operators are not following the traffic guidelines laid down by the state government. If taxi drivers run their taxis on the road without proper documents, the traffic police should seize such taxis,” he said.
Ibrahim also ordered the ACP of Traffic, Tilakchandra, to take action against those who operate their taxis in violation of traffic rules.
The traffic police and MCC officials have also been instructed to shift the present bus stops from the junctions as they cause traffic jams in the city. The drivers of city buses stop the buses wherever they like which leads to traffic jam in the city.
SP Bhushan Borase briefed on the increased numbers of road accidents in the district compared to previous years. In 2015, out of 959 road accidents, 151 were fatal, 808 were non-fatal, 169 persons were killed and 1271 were injured. But in 2016, just up to June 30, 530 road accidents have taken place, out of which 98 were fatal; 104 people have been killed and 759 have been injured.
Bhushan also said that the police, forest, PWD, KED and NH officials have jointly conducted a survey to find out accident prone zones. Traffic safety measures will be taken to improve road safety and reduce accidents in future, he added.
