DC Priyanka Clarifies on 2000 old Ration Cards found in Shiroor on NH 66
Byndoor: A bundle of about two thousand rations cards was found on Thursday, June 21 afternoon on NH 66 near Shiroor under the Byndoor Police Station limits.
According to the Byndoor Tahsildar, those rations cards belonged to the Bantwal taluk office and were dumped on the side of NH 66 opposite the Green Valley School, Shiroor. “After getting information from the local people, I visited the spot and checked the ration cards. The rations cards found there were the old cards that were cancelled,” said the Tahsildar.
He further said, “The rations cards that were found were issued from 2008 to 2015. It is not yet known who had dumped the cards there and why? We have intimated the Bantwal Taluk Office and are waiting for an answer. The revenue officials along with Byndoor PSI have collected all the ration cards and handed them over to the Food Inspector of Kundapur Taluk for further action.”
After the news of the dumped ration cards spread on social media, deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis issued a clarification in this regard. The DC stated that on June 21, a bundle containing rations cards was found on NH 66 near the Green Valley School Shiroor and was brought to the Byndoor Tahsildar. There were about 2,000 old ration cards which were withdrawn while issuing new ration cards. These cards belonged to the Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. “We have asked the Deputy Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Dakshina Kannada District to dispose of the ration cards as per the regulations,” she said.
