DC Priyanka Mary Francis calls to youth to develop sports spirit
Udupi: Calling upon the youth to develop a sporting spirit Priyanka Mary Francis deputy commissioner of Udupi district said that Sports and games are a means to train both the body as well as the mind. Physical exercise keeps one fit and strong and also helps in the coordination of limbs and muscles. They also develop self-confidence, team spirit and leadership qualities.
She was speaking after inaugurating the district level athletic meet of PU department organised by the PU board in association with St Cecily’s P U College Udupi at the District stadium Udupi here on Friday, November 3.
Every participant should realize that participation is more important than winning or losing. The losers have to develop their skills and polish them to develop into talents. Participating in sports is very important, whether you win it or not does not matter, she added.
Fr Valerian Mendonca Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church Udupi in his message said that Sports which evokes emotions play a major role in an individual’s growth. Winning and losing is just a part of the game which needs to be taken in sportsman spirit.
Sr Rose Agnes AC assistant provincial Carmel convent presided over the inaugural function. National level athlete Sandra D’Souza lit the sports torch. Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje President Udupi CMC and Nalini Pradeep Rao President TP hoisted the flags. Sheela K Shetty vice president received the sports salute.
Councillor Yashpal Suvarna, Deputy director sports, youth service Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, Principal St Cecile’s PU college Sr Maria Gracy, PD Dinesh Kumar, DD PU department Vijayalaxmi Nayak and others were present.
