DC Priyanka Mary orders Demolition of Illegal sand mining sheds on river banks

Manipal: The sheds constructed on the river banks to operate illegal sand mining will be demolished said Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis. She was speaking while chairing the task force meeting at the Deputy Commissioners Office, Rajathadri Manipal.

An order has been formulated to demolish sheds constructed to operate illegal sand mining. A time frame has been set to conduct raids. The district administration will be raiding the illegal sand mining areas together with the police in Kundapur, Bramhavar, and Byndoor. Dredging machines, cranes and boats used for illegal sand mining will be seized.

An order will be formulated under the CRPC Section 144 to control illegal sand mining. Necessary action will be initiated under CRPC Section 110 and 107 on the people operating illegal sand mining areas. People cannot store illegal sand on the private land, notice should be served to them after proper consultation.

The officials should inspect the permits of the vehicles of other districts supplying sand to Udupi district. Officials should implement all the necessary action on the illegal sand mining within one week. Permits of vehicles carrying illegal sand will be cancelled. The PWD, KRDL and Mines department will supply the sand. 60000-tons of sand is available for construction work and people can contact PWD and KRDL for the sand.
GPS on the sand transporting vehicles has to be effectively inspected and the CCTV’s at check posts should be effectively monitored, she added.

District Superintendent of Police said that necessary squads have been formed to crackdown on the sand mafia. While separate squads are formed to monitor illegal sand mining in Kundapur. The police will extend necessary support to the district administration in cracking down on the sand mafia, he added.

Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag, ADC Anuradha, SP K T Balakrishna, DCF Achappa and others were present.
