DC Senthil Inaugurates Coaching Programme for Civil Services/UPSC Exams at St Aloysius

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil Inaugurates Coaching Programme for Civil Services/Competitive Exams {UPSC} at St Aloysius College {Autonomous}- Mangaluru.

Mangaluru: The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) among others. It is conducted in three phases – a preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II also popularly known as Civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT), and a main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type, followed by a personality test (interview).

The Department of Political Science, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) organized Coaching Programme for Civil Services/ Competitive Exams (UPSC) at Sanidhya Hall, Administrative Block. The Deputy Commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, IAS who was the Chief Guest for the programme, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Fr Dr Praveen Martis Sj-Principal, St Aloysius College; Dr. Alwyn D’Sa Director of Administration Block, Dr. Rose Veera D’Souza- HOD Dept. Of Political Science, and Alwin D’Souza Convener. Fr. Leo D’Souza Sj -the former Rector, and Fr. Pradeep Sequeira Sj Finance Officer of the College also graced the occasion.

In his address to the aspirants, DC Sasikanth Senthil relaxed the atmosphere by claiming that he was an average student and a perennial back bencher, and he narrated his life story so that the aspirants could draw inspiration, strength and motivation. He said, “I changed my job from IT to work in the field through teaching and interacting with varieties of people. This inspired me to take numerous attempts to finally crack the IAS at the fifth attempt standing 9th in All India. I want to tell you that UPSC exam is only a reflection of the job one is up to. Therefore, let me tell you four important qualities with my personal examples: interest in everything; empathy for all; maintain anonymity in the job; and lastly bind it with courage.”

Students put their numerous queries in the form of preparation and attempts, challenges, physique, political pressure, barriers etc. DC Senthil answered these in a jovial, nonchalant and practical manner. His humility and openness drew a lot of admiration from the students and teachers. Fr Praveen Martis Sj in his presidential address stressed on three E’s-Engage, Enlighten and Evolve. He encouraged the students to join civil services, for better prospects. He also thanked the DC for his valuable time and for his jovial interaction with the students. He also congratulated Dr Rose Veera for release of her book named ‘Harmony with Life..”

During the programme, a Value Education Book (Module I & II) “Harmony with Life: Reflection for Positive Choices” which was compiled by Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, Dept. of Political Science was released by the chief guest along with the other dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Joyce Sabina Lobo-Asst Professor, Dept of Political Science; vote of thanks by Alwin D’souza- Asst Professor, Dept of Political Science; and the programme was compered by Miss Joeana Matthews- II nd Political Science student.
