DCP Hanumantharaya Flags off Fire and Safety Demonstration Rally
Mangaluru: To mark the Fire and Safety service week, the fire department held a demonstration rally from Ambedkar Circle Jyothi here on April 19.
DCP Law and order Hanumantharaya flagged off the demonstration rally. Speaking to mangalorean.com DCP Hanumantharaya said, “Today the fire department has held a demonstration rally to mark the fire and safety service week. We need to give a lot of importance to fire and safety because in summer there are more fire incidents in the district. In Mangaluru the fire stations are working effectively to protect the people from fire incidents. The fire department is working towards protecting lives and property. If the fire department gets information on time, they can reach the spot on time and minimize the damage. People should know the contact number of the fire department to inform them of any incidents. This rally will bring more awareness among the people.”
The demonstration rally culminated at the Pandeshwar Fire station. Speaking to mangalorean.com Chief Fire Officer T N Shivashankar said, “Every year we are observing the National Fire Service Week from 14th April to 20th April. This is to pay the homage to the brave firefighters who sacrificed their lives on duty in the Mumbai fire incident on April 14, 1944. Every year April 14 is observed as martyrs day. The Fire and safety week is a reminder of the destructive potential of fire and the effort of fire prevention. Every year due to fire many lives have been lost and property destroyed. We are trying to bring awareness among the people by holding rallies. Such demonstration rallies will bring awareness among the people of the strength and capability of the fire department. We have also distributed pamphlets with contact numbers. People can call the fire department if there are any fire incidents in their locality.”
The demonstration rally with 60 fire personnel marched from Jyothi with Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), Advanced Rescue Vehicle, 2 Water Bowsers, Water Lorry 1, Water Tenders 2, Varuna 1, four Agni bikes and three Jeeps.
Regional Fire officer Thippeswamy, District Fire officer Shekar, Udupi district fire officer Vasanth Kumar, Kadri fire officer Sunil Kumar and others were also present.
