DCPs and KSRP Personal Injured in Stone Pelting incident at Bunder – Dr Harsha

Mangaluru: “In today’s incidents, two persons Jalil (49) and Nausheen (23) lost their lives. We are doing a detailed investigation. The Muslim Central Committee has requested the community members not to take the law into their hands. When the protesters rounded up the police station and barged in to attack the police in Bunder, the police in retaliation had to use force. The protesters were throwing bottles and pelting stones. Our DCP law and order was injured in the hand and suffered a fractured finger. DCP crime and traffic was injured in the leg and he too has suffered a fracture. It is sad that two persons lost their lives in today’s incidents. We will get the report once the post-mortem is done”, said police commissioner Dr Harsha while briefing the press at the Mangaluru East police station here on December 19.

Addressing the mediapersons Dr Harsha said, “The Qazi himself has sent an audio clip calling the people of the community to maintain peace. If the people will not listen to the Qazi then what can I say? In the audio clip the Qazi has clearly called the people of his community not to spread inciting messages through social media. He has also requested the people to maintain peace and harmony in society.

Dr Harsha also said, “We have imposed curfew in the Central Sub-division and section 144 in the district. The curfew will be in force till 6:00 pm, on December 20 and section 144 until 12 midnight. The additional force has also been called to Mangaluru.”

When asked about filing a case against those spreading inciting messages through social media, Dr Harsha said, “That is an activity related to cybercrime where a lot of people are under the scanner. We have served more than 200 notices to those spreading inciting messages through the social media. We will take legal action against those spreading inciting messages.”
