Deadline for Availing Property Card Extended for Two Months – MLC Ivan
Mangaluru: “The main issue of this press meet is the Property Card. There have been media reports that are saying that the state government has given property card to only one-third of the population. There have also been complaints that the PR cards given to 37 villages in the Mangaluru taluk need corrections. We have been asking people to apply for the Property Card from the past two years by sending letters to the landowners and asking them to do a survey of their respective property. There have also been complaints about the lack of facilities. People have complained about non-functioning servers, lack of records, and lack of surveyors. Our first priority is to improve the infrastructure that is used to give Property Cards to the applicants. Our second priority is to consolidate the data. We admit that there has been trouble in issuing Property Cards to the applicants”, said MLC and Parliamentary Secretary Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at the DCC Office, Mallikatta here, on May 18.
Addressing the mediapersons Ivan D’Souza said, “The reason why we are having trouble issuing Property Cards is because of the topography of the region. Even if the property size is 2 acres and 10 cents, the measured land may not amount to the same due to pits and bumps. At that time, the measured land size and the land size available in pre-existing records do not match. Our priorities are to increase the number of servers and surveyors and make sure that any applicant is issued the Property Card immediately via online procedures. Today, I spoke to the officials who issue Property Cards. As of today, there are no pending applications for Property Cards. However, the number of people applying for PR cards has reduced.”
Ivan further said, “There are still some problems involving government-owned land, sold-land, and land reserved for public-use. If the records of such properties are incorrect, you could not correct them here. You had to take permission from the offices in Bengaluru. However, I wrote to the Revenue Minister RV Deshpande and requested him to allow minor corrections to be made here itself. This request has been granted by the minister. The deadline for applying for Property Cards was May 15. I wrote a letter to the Revenue Ministry, asking them to extend the deadline by another two months and the government has agreed to the extension. The government has also instructed the Deputy Commissioner to overlook the process as the elections are not yet over and the MCC rules are still in place.”
Advocate Mohammed Hanif, Manu Raju, Sadashiv Ullal, and Corporator Bhaskar were also present.
