Decomposed Body of Wilson, Catholic Sabha Demands Rs 25 Lakh Compensation
Mangaluru: The president of the Catholic Sabha of Mangaluru Pradesh demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation from the hospital to the family of Wilson Fernandes and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner here on October 28.
The family members, friends and relatives of Wilson Fernandes gathered in front of the hospital and staged a protest against the hospital. Former Minister U T Khader and police officials visited the spot and brought the situation under control. The hospital later issued an apology letter stating, “The management is regretting the improper management of the cold storage and not following the standard procedures and inconvenience caused to the family members as well as the relatives. The hospital authority is immensely sorry for handing over the body in a decomposed state”.
On October 27, evening the body was taken directly from the hospital mortuary to the cemetery and buried, the funeral mass was later held in the church.
On October 28, the president of the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh Rolphy D’Costa along with the members met the Deputy commissioner. They informed the DC that the Christian community is always peace-loving and this incident has put the community in deep pain. The family members are in deep shock and that justice should be done with them. He handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Wilson Fernandes from the hospital.
