Deforestation the Main Reason for rain deficit – Pramod Madhwaraj
Udupi: Deforestation is the main reason for rain deficit in our state said Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge and also state minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Service.
He was speaking after inaugurating the New Year Dairy release and felicitation programme organised by Karnataka State Forest conservers Association Kundpur Sub Division and Kudremukh wildlife sanctuary Karkala at Sheshashyana Auditorium on Sunday, December 18.
Deforestation has long been known to cause temperature increase in local areas and it shows a potentially wider impact on the rains. We have inherited the forest from our ancestors and we need to conserve them for future generations. Conserving forests is safeguarding ourselves. So, conservation is both our right and responsibility. In the Forest Department, especially the lower levels should strive hard towards preserving the forest, he added.
The minister also promised to look into the demands of the forest conservators. The lower cadre officials should be provided appropriate facilities as they face a lot of risks while working within the forests. He assured that he would talk to the Chief Minister and the Forest minister for providing better facilities to the forest officials at the lower levels.
Association president H Devaraj Pana presided over the function. Forest officials Dr Sanjay S Bijoor IFS, Amarnath IFS, Maria Christha Raj IFS, Rohini K district information officer, R G Bhat Udupi social forest officer, Sathish Baba Rai DFO, Subramanya H R Moodbidri, Sadananda, B Bhaskar and others were present.
