Dekho..dekho..dekho..’An Evening in M’luru’ for 1000 Alumni of Malnad College of Engineering-Hassan at Reunion Bash helds at City Beach-Mangaluru on 23 and 24 December 2017.
Mangaluru: As always with his witty punchlines and unleashing his compering talents, the MC for the occasion Er Vijay Vishnu Mayya stepped on the stage and grooved his body singing the oldy Hindi song “Aji Aisaa Maukaa Phir Kahaan Milegaa, Hamaare jaisaa dil kahaan milegaa, Aao tumako dikhalaataa hun, Pairis ki ek ragi shaam, Dekho dekho dekho dekho dekho, An evening in paris….” but also adding a different twist to the lyrics saying…” Aji Aisaa Maukaa Phir Kahaan Milegaa, Hamaare jaisaa MC kahaan milegaa….Dekho dekho dekho dekho dekho, An evening in Mangaluru…”-that was a hilarious and perfect start to a mega Re-Union Bash that Mangaluru had seen in a long time. Over 1000 plus alumni of Malnad College of Engineering (MCE) -Hassan had converged at the City Beach- Mangaluru for one of the largest, loudest and grooviest party hosted by a bunch of alumni of MCE in Mangaluru called “MCE KARAVALI GLOBAL MEET 2107” on 23rd and 24 th Dec 2017. The programme was conducted under the banner of “MCE KARAVALI MEET 2017”.
At Reunion of classmates, it’s always a history, where past memories are shared and cherished. Yes, reunions-they can be excitedly anticipated or painfully dreaded. Either way, the first hour or so can be awkward as classmates shuffle in from all over. Reunions should include time for catching up and renewing old relationships. Getting past that awkward hour will get a little easier, if there is lots of fun and easy reunion ice breaker games. And for that matter, the reunion or call it a get-together of a bunch of classmates who shared the same classroom or may be shared the same benches came together to have a social night out.
Yes, Class Reunions or Alumnae Reunions are a chance to brag about what they may or may not of accomplished. In some there is the fear of what has not been accomplished. And there are some, that are just interested on how far people have come. There is also a chance to look at the humorous side of things. Spending time looking at the fashion and the hair in old photos, and is also a chance to look back at some of the stupid things that were done while being classmates. For these alumni of MCE who had studied at their Alma mater got together after years to cherish the moments and fun that they had when they were students of this prestigious institution. They came from Hassan, from all over Karnataka, from around India and a fews from abroad like Gulf, USA and Europe just to share the reminiscences of their college fun days.
It was a nostalgic journey down the memory lane for these classmates who came together for the Reunion Bash. The memoirs of yester years were once again rejuvenated as they all shared their memories of those olden, youthful, cheerful days full of happiness and joy. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K.S. Jayantha, the present Principal of Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan, and the Chairman of Malnad Technical Society Ashok Harnahalli was the Chief Guest. The Alumni of Malnad College of Engineering and presently the Vice Chancellor of Vishwaraya Technical University Dr. Kari Siddappa was the Guest of Honour. The alumni who studied at MCE who are now leading in totally successful professional lives in their respective fields joined in the Re-Union bash. To name a few, the successful tycoons like Harry Moras, James Mendonsa from Gulf, NRI from USA- Sundaresh H; R Admiral of Indian Navy-Srinivasan; and President of Maland Alumni Association-M.K.G. Kumar.
The special highlights of the program would be To glorify the art and culture of Karavali, a Special exhibition was organized outside the programme venue entrance to depict the traditions and cultural heritage of undivided South Canara, plus there was a Special Cultural program also to display the cultural heritage of Karavali .There was live feed of the event on : https://www.facebook.com/mcekaravalimeet2017 on 23 December night.The two- day alumni meet included live local folk art on display, reminiscences, music, live performance and felicitations, fireworks, City tour and movie shows on 24 December, and ofcourse, sumptuous fellowship meals azt City Beach and Pilikula Golf Club.
The Malnad College of Engineering is one of the oldest and prestigious Engineering Institute of the country with over 60 years of successful existence. Known for delivering qualitative education this Institution have produce more than 25000 engineers from various branches to date. Malnad College of Engineering established in the year 1960, during the second 5 year plan, as a joint venture of Government of India, Government of Karnataka and the Malnad Technical Education Society, Hassan. the Malnad college of engineering is now a reputed Engineering college in the country.
The college has earned “ISTE Award” as one of the Best Engineering Colleges in the Country, in the year 2007. The College is built on a 41.28 acres campus and has all the facilities expected in a modern Engineering College. The college offers 9 B.E, 5 M.Tech and MCA programmes, with about 2750 students on rolls. The college is one of the few Engineering Colleges in the country recognized for conducting the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) sponsored by the World Bank. The Placement & Training centre in the college trains and assists the students in securing employment in reputed companies like Tata Consultancy, Infosys, Wipro, L&T, BEL, Fistchner, Builders’ Association of India etc., through campus recruitment programme.
Addressing the mega audience of engineers Principal of MCE said, “This is indeed a memorable day for to be amidst so many alumni of MCE, and I feel I am very honoured to address this global alumni of MCE. The Mangaluru team has done a marvellous job in putting up this great event and have created an atmosphere here just like in MCE Hassan and its branches. Their creativity and unique initiative need to be very much complimented. The engineers of our college not only got certificates for their profession, they are also known as good human beings with golden hearts. Many have contributed generously towards various community projects. Many of our alumni have taken up various posts in the society and corporate houses, in India and also abroad. Many have become political leaders, part of government and its administration. But wherever they go, they are recognized as students of MCE. My sincere thanks to the brainchild behind this event and chairman of the organizing committee, Er Suhas Hegde, for making this event a memorable one”
Many important dignitaries who attended the meet, namely Er Harry Moraes (Senior NRI-Dubai) , Er James Mendonca (Senior NRI-Dubai) , Er Sundaresh H (Senior Alumni-USA), Shankar Bhat and addressing the august gathering expressed their thoughts and memories of the yester years at MCE, and cherished their great moments during their golden college days. An announcement was made of the next alumni meet, and the alumni of MCE in Bengaluru will be at the helm of the next MCE Global Reunion . Mementos and felicitations were presented to the VIP guests. Also the non-teaching staff, some who have been with MCE since its inception were also recognized, and a group photo shot was clicked for the memory album.
Following photo shoots of various batch year of MCE alumni, it was time for real party, comprising of music, dance and of course, Cocktails, snacks and sumptuous meal cooked by Maya Caterers, sister concern of City Beach- awesome food, with wide array of seafood and other delicacies- Kudos to the proprietor-V P Kamath for a job well done! The stage reverberated with scintillating dance performances by the Bhargavi Girls from Udupi, who enthralled the crowd with their magnificent performance, which received loud applause from the audience. Adding more charm and local tradition was Pili (Tiger) Dance, who were also joined by a few “Engineer Pilis” in the act.
After a few cocktails and soaked with high spirits, the revelers got something special to witness from the girls of Russia, who performed few mesmerizing belly dances to the awe of the engineers, who even called for encores? The MC made an announcement that the girls have landed from Russia to enthrall everyone- but during one event few months ago, the MC had also made the similar announcement- but few weeks later I saw those Russian girls enjoying the sun-n-sand on Calangute Beach- and they are still there even today. Oh well- St Petersburg-Russia or Calangute-Goa, who cares? The Russian damsels stole the show with their dance acts. “браво!”-that’s Russian for Bravo!
The entire celebrations were professionally compered by Er Vijay Mayya and sensational and glamorous “Mrs World Popular” winner Ms Sowjanya Hegde. Chairman of organizing committee Suhas Hegde Nandalike welcomed the gathering. In conclusion, this Reunion was one of the biggest, Craziest , Loudest and Merriest Party of all times, that Mangaluru has ever witnessed. Bravo and job well done, the Kudla alumni engineers of MCE!
