Delhi Police nab son of carjacker Manoj Bakkarwala
New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Wednesday nabbed Ashish Bakkarwala, who was following on the footsteps of his carjacker father Manoj Bakkarwala, after a brief encounter in Prahladpur near Rohini.
The police team recovered three live cartridges and one pistol from Ashish Bakkarwala, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.
Ashish received a bullet injury on his leg after the police team fired in self-defence.
“Ashish is the son of Manoj Bakkarwala, who was involved in more than 60 criminal cases, mostly of carjacking and firing upon police personnel. He idolised his father as he was fascinated by his criminal life and wanted to become like him,” said DCP Special Cell, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
During interrogation, Ashish revealed that he had planned to kill a property dealer of his village as he didn’t pay Rs 1 crore as extortion money.
Ashish and his friends were arrested for killing a man in a fit of rage and throwing his body in the Bawana Canal. He was out on bail since February 2020, but soon started threatening people for extortion again after being granted bail.
He told the police that on May 17, he along with his associate Amit had opened fire on the house of one Satpal, a resident of Bakkarwala, and demanded Rs 1 crore as extortion money. Soon after the incident, he also threatened a doctor and demanded Rs 1 crore as extortion money.
