Demolition in force, MCC officials dismantle Petty Shops
Mangaluru: Illegal petty shops under the Kuntikan bridge were dismantled by the MCC Health department here on September 3.
The raid was conducted under the leadership of Revenue inspector Praveenchandra Karkera and Health officer Manjayya Shetty.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Praveenchandra said, “In the council, the commissioner and the council members have decided to evacuate the petty shops. After receiving the order to evacuate the illegal petty shops which have bloomed like Mushrooms under the bridges. We have got into action and will continue the evacuation in Kottara and Kulur bridge. In Kuntikan, under the bridge, there are several petty shops, selling all sorts of items”.
Praveenchandra further said that the raid will continue. Until we get the instructions to stop the evacuation we will continue our drive and demolish all the illegal petty shops. The place is not hygiene, vendors use, dirty water to prepare food and sell it which will affect the health of the consumers.
Speaking to mangalorean.com one of the vendor Priya D’Souza from Kuntikan said that she did not get any notice to vacate the shops.
Another woman was adamant to move away from her shop and had to be moved by the police. Additional police force was called to continue the evacuation. A number of illegal petty shops were demolished. The vendors were given some time to move their belongings and have also been warned of the continued process to demolish and evacuate illegal shops within the MCC.
