Denial of Ticket to Mithun, Mass resignation of Youth Congress Leaders
Mangaluru: All presidents and office bearers of the Youth Congress from all the 8 constituencies submitted a mass resignation to the District Congress President expressing their dissatisfaction over the denial of ticket to District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai for the Mulky – Moodbidri Constituency on April 17.
Addressing the mediapersons General Secretary of Youth Congress Kiran Kumar Budleguthu said, “Three years ago, Abhaychandra Jain had promised to give the ticket to our Youth President Mithun Rai who has worked hard for the constituency. But when the list of candidates was released the ticket was given to the sitting MLA Abhaychandra Jain. Mithun Rai is an able leader who has strengthened the Youth Congress in all the 8 constituencies. AICC President Rahul Gandhi says that youth should take an active part in politics. All of us accepted his call and joined the Congress party. We all had thought that our president would get the ticket to contest the assembly elections but at the last minute Mitun was denied the ticket.”
Kiran further said, “As soon as Jain had announced that he would resign from politics and give his seat to Mithun, we the youth leaders worked for Abhaychandra Jain in Mulky – Moodbidri constituency. Now after the denial of ticket to Mithun Rai the youth leaders are not showing much interest to work for the party and decided to resign from our posts. We are not against any leaders but we will remain neutral.”
When asked about the reason for the Mass resignation, Suhail Khandak said, “We expected Mithun to get the Mulky – Moodbidri constituency ticket to contest the Assembly elections. But we are disappointed by the decision of the high command of not giving a chance for our leader to contest the elections. So we thought of resigning from our posts but will remain in the party.”
