Denied Admission in Govt Hospital, Pregnant Woman Forced to Deliver in Private Hospital
Kundapur: Day by day the government hospitals of Karnataka are in the news for the wrong reasons. Recently an elderly woman had to drag her ill husband on the floor to get his scanning done as she was allegedly not provided with a wheelchair at a government-run hospital in Shivamogga.
In a fresh incident, a pregnant woman who was suffering from labour pains was allegedly denied admission in the Government Taluk Hospital, Kundapur due to non-availability of the doctors.
After being denied admission to the government hospital, the woman delivered a girl child in a private hospital. The family members of the woman have filed a complaint in the Mahila Santhwana Kendra Kundapur on Monday, June 5.
Asha (29) a resident of Kodi Hale Alive of Kundapur Taluk is the victim. She was being treated in the Kundpaur Taluk Hospital from the past nine months. On Saturday, June 3 Midnight Asha developed labour pains. Baby, the mother of Asha and Amitha her aunt rushed Asha to the Kundapur Taluk Hospital in an Auto Rickshaw.
When they reached the government hospital the staff allegedly did not admit her and referred her to the Government hospital, Udupi citing the absence of the duty doctor. The family members requested the hospital staff to provide the mobile number of the duty doctor. When they contacted the duty doctor Chandrashekar, he refused to attend the case and referred her to the district hospital Udupi. The family members then called 108 ambulances thrice without success.
Later they took Asha to the nearby Shree Devi Nursing home at 1:30 am. The hospital staff there responded immediately and admitted Asha to the labour ward. Within 10 minutes, before the doctor could attend Asha, she gave birth to a healthy girl child. The mother and child are in good health and are receiving proper medical treatment in the hospital.
Asha’s family members have filed a complaint in the Mahila Santhwana Kendra against the government hospital staff. The Santhwana Kendra has given a written complaint to the health department and also to the child and woman welfare department.When Mangalorean.com contacted hospital Surgeon,

I received the information today morning when Radha Das contacted me and gave me the details of the incident. We will hold an inquiry and action will be taken against the concerned persons in the case.
