Depressed over Postponement of Exams, College Student Commits Suicide in Hebri

Udupi: Depressed over the postponement of examinations due to the coronavirus outbreak in the district, a student of the final year degree allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison, died at the hospital without responding to treatment on June 20.

The deceased has been identified as Shakunthala a resident of Mathibettu near Vagranga, Hebri Taluk. She was the final year student of Muniyalu degree College.

According to the Police, Shakunthala was depressed over the postponement of examinations due to the lockdown. On June 8, she consumed poison at her house; she was rushed to the Manipal hospital where she breathed her last on June 20 without responding to treatment.

The victim was studying hard to clear the examinations but was very depressed over the postponement of the exam due to the lockdown.

A case has been registered in the Hebri Police Station.
