Depression leads 36-year-old Fr Mahesh to End Life
Udupi: 36-year-old Energetic and dynamic priest Fr Mahesh of Shirva Parish ended his life by hanging to the ceiling at his cabin in the School on October 11 night.
According to sources, on October 11, Fr Mahesh had actively participated in two programmes including the teachers’ training programme and the Missionary children’s training programme. Later he had offered the Holy Mass at the church and had gone to the school office. For the whole day, Fr Mahesh was busily involved in various activities conducted in the school and was found to be in a jolly mood.
Family sources have revealed that Fr Mahesh was suffering from depression syndrome since his childhood. But the family members did not expect Fr Mahesh to take the extreme step to end his life at this age.
After the incident, The Bishop of Udupi Diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo personally visited the suicide spot late during the night and co-operated with the police for investigations until the early hours of October 12.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake visited the KMC Hospital mortuary to see the body and later met the Bishop of Udupi.
According to the police, Fr Mahesh must have committed suicide on Friday night between 8:30 to 9:30 pm. The police have not found any suicide note in his chamber.
The Shirva Police are verifying the CCTV footage. The Post-mortem has been conducted at the KMC hospital Manipal.
