Despite Objections Karanth Huttura Prashasti Conferred on Prakash Rai
Udupi: Despite strong objections by various associations the Multi-lingual actor Prakash Rai was conferred with the annual Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti-2017 for his service and contribution to the film industry, at the Karantha Theam Park Kota here on October 10.
After receiving the award Prakash Rai said, “Shivaram Karanth has led me to be stern, being his grandson I am not a coward and will not be quiet. The firm stand by the organizers motivated me to receive the award”.
Prakash Rai further said, “We should create a fearless society for our children. The freedom of speech should be passed to the next generation. The Constitution of India has given the right to enjoy the freedom, the right to life has been a vital right ensured by the Constitution of India. We don’t need a society which leads us to live in fear. If I have hurt anyone, kindly forgive me”. I answered to my conscience.
“It was a moment of pleasure and pride when I was chosen to receive the Karanth Huttura Prashasthi. I shared the moment with my daughter, mother and my friends. It feels like I have come as a grandson to my grandfather’s house. Karanth has never liked people who have lied. He has written what he actually followed. He lived and worked according to his conscience. Karanth is a tree which has given shade to many people,” he added.
Anand C Kunder, President of Karantha Huttura Prashashti Prathistana Kota, welcomed the gathering. Shridhar Hande introduced actor Prakash Rai in a Yakshagana style song. Neelavara Surendra Adiga president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Udupi district inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Pramod Hande president of Kotathattu gram panchayat presented the award to Prakash Rai.
Film Director G V Moorthy, Panchayat PDO Sathish Vaddarse, Kota Panchayat president Vanitha Sridhar Acharya, Taluk Panchayat EO Mohan Raj, Saligrama Town Panchayat president Rathna Ganiga, award selection committee member U S Shenoy, T B Shetty and others were present.
