Devotees in Large Number Throng Attur Basilica Annual Feast on 3rd Day

Karkala: Devotees in large number visited the two-and-a-half centuries old St Lawrence Shrine and offered prayers on the 3rd day of the five-day annual feast of the shrine on Tuesday, January 29.

Devotees lit candles in front of the statue of St Lawrence. Dr Peter Machado, Bishop of Bengaluru Arch Diocese, conducted the mass in Kannada at 6:00 am. A large number of devotees participated in the mass.

There were 11 masses on the 3 day of the festivities of St Lawrence Basilica of which 4 were in the Kannada language. A large number of devotees of St Lawrence were present for the masses. Fr Faustin Lobo, PRO of Karnataka Bishops Conference, Fr Denis D’Sa dean of Shirva Denary as well as other priests offered the masses and delivered homilies.

Former MLA of Moodbidri and former minister of the Karnataka Government Abhayachandra Jain, Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ramanath Rai, Parliamentary Secretary for the chief minister Ivan D’Souza, leader of the opposition in the council Kota Srinivas Poojary, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, former MLA of Karkala, Gopal Bhandary and many other dignitaries paid a respectful visit to the Basilica.

On Wednesday, January 30, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will offer the festive mass at 10:30 am and in the evening at 5:30 pm. Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, bishop, diocese of Beltangady will offer the mass in Kannada.
