Dharwad / Vijayapura: Ten Die in Two Separate Ghastly Road Mishaps on Sep 23

Dharwad / Vijayapura: In two separate road mishaps in the two districts, ten persons lost their lives and several injured on Wednesday, Sep 23.

In a collision that took place between a KSRTC bus and a car in the early hours near the University of Agriculture campus in Dharwad, five died on the spot and two were injured. The car approaching from Belagavi, in an attempt to overtake a lorry, hit the bus from the opposite direction head-on.

All of the were in their early twenties and were students of fifthe semester at the Karnataka State Law University. Most of the deceased were from well-placed families.

They are Anish Chinchore (21), son of Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagara Palike member Deepak Chinchore and district NSUI president, Shivadeep Dambal (21), son of Ballari district additional superintendent of police Vijaykumar Dambal, Yuganka Patil (21), son of Agriculture varsity lecturer S S Patil and grandson of centenarian entrepreneur G G Dodwad, Shivakumar Muttagi (25) who was employed at the Navalgund depot of the KSRTC and Kartik Nayak (21) of Davanagere.

In another mishap, a bullock cart rolled into the Indi canal in Balaganur near Alamelu in Indi taluk of Vijayapura (formerly Bijapur) district. As grain was being transported in the cart, a peacock which was resting by the side of the road is said to have flown off all of a sudden.

The bullocks got unnerved by the flash of the spread feathers of the bird and ran around in panic.

Resultantly, the cart fell into the canal. Of the seven occupants, Mayavva Beeranalli (60) and Soorakka Huggenavar (10) could save themselves. The bodies of Kashinath (5), Akash (6) and Ningappa (19) were traced. Until night, efforts were in progress to trace the remaining two, Neelavva and Chinnavva.
