About Dhumbu Pira
Without wasting much time, immediately the Tulu stage play Dhumbu Pira, rolled on with beautiful background live music by Sharath Uchil and realistic lighting effects by Harish Kaup introducing the happy go family of a medium class with a background of old house beautifully crafted with changeable roll on facility to show later a different twin modern houses changeover after the first scene which was smoothly transformed in time. The play written by Shyam Kumar Chitrapura was well directed by able Shiv Prakash Poonja who also acted in the drama as one of the two sons of the leader of the family along with their little sister who were happily living until their marriage which later creates friction and partition of the family including their parents who were forced to be shared within the two sons. A happy go joint family later stays in separate houses face to face as per the mediator who created this seeing the close bondage of the parents. The seriousness of the drama gets twists with fun with the entry of three relatives of one of the son’s wife who make their special entry as a temporary visitors. One enacted by Sandeep Shetty Manibettu as a deaf character and another normal but both as past gangsters with the third one a funny character as their ever-loving sister whom they closely protect. These three characters really gave a laughter riot all through the drama with their rib tickling funny but meaningful dialogues all through the play. Throughout the story shows how the family gets divided because of the fight between the two sons, inducing pain to their close loving parents who sacrifices their happiness for their children’s happiness and at the end the death of their mother brings realization to their stubbornness after mediation of their only sister who even refuses to tie ‘Rakhie’ during Raksha Bhandan. The story seems to be directly inspired by the Hindi movie ‘Bhaghban’, the Amitabh Bachhan and Hema Malini starrer. ‘Dhumbu Pira’ a comedy drama ended with serious note of social message to the audience who were glued to the seat till the end of the drama. The entire team comprised of Shiv Prakash Poonja, Sujith Shetty, Sandeep Shetty, Prasanna Bailur, Merwyn Shirva, Sharth Uchil, Madhukar Palimar, Raghuraj Paniyadi, Shamith Rao Inna, Shrinivas Uchila, Yashwanth Uppur, Rajesh Alape, Harish Kaup, Suchetha Sharth & Shwetha Kaup. Deepak SP delivered the vote of thanks.
