Did You Know that CBI’s ‘Most Wanted’ Kingpin Sam Peter Lived in Manipal for 5 Years?

Mangaluru: More details are emerging out after thorough interrogation on notorious fraudster and extortionist Sam Peter, who was caught along with other seven culprits, who posed as Officials of National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB) in Kankanady, Mangaluru on 16 August by a team led by Police Inspector Shantaram Kundar of Kadri East Police station. The police confiscated an SUV, a revolver with eight live bullets, a fake air gun, bunch of mobile phones and other digital equipment used in the crime.

Now Mangaluru Police have revealed that Sam despite being on Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) ‘International Most Wanted Criminal’ list, had managed to escape from under the radar of Udupi police last year. It is learnt during that time he had befriended a senior IPS Officer, when Sam was staying in a rented apartment in Manipal, along with his wife and two children- and during that period He managed to convince the Senior IPS officer that he is an official attached to CBI.

Sources also reveal that Sam used to occasionally visit his family who stayed in Manipal for the last 4-5 years- and also that his two children are pursuing their education at a private college in Manipal. Witness say that Sam led a lavish lifestyle, and also posted photos snapped with senior politicians, educationists, celebrities, entrepreneurs, among rich people. It is also learnt that recently he was involved in a fight in Udupi, but due to lack of evidence police failed to book him.

In the meantime, Police Commissioner of Mangaluru Dr P S Harsha speaking to media has said that after initial stages of investigation, Sam would be handed over to CBI, so that they CBI can sleuth further into Sam’s dealings and his crime records- and that there are cases booked against Sam in many countries, under several aliases. Sam had also employed four gunmen to escort him on his rounds, and he has been paying them Rs 20,000 each as monthly salary.

It is also learnt that Sam Peter had rented office premises in Yelahanka-Bengaluru from a lady owner Rosy P Devasahayam, claiming that he was the Director of NCIB. Believing in his words, the owner had rented out the space, but Sam failed to pay the monthly rent. Filing a case on Sam, the lady owner speaking to media has said, “In 2018, Sam Peter introduced himself to me as Director of NCIB and rented office space for rent. However, he failed to pay any rent. In April 2019, he vacated the office and assured me that he will settle Rs 67,000 as pending rent dues at the earliest, but all in vain”.

When police visited Sam’s office at Interbeing, in Yelahanka New Town in Bengaluru, they found only a small banner hung with NCIB written on it. Police also said that Since Sam visited the office very rarely, the lady owner of the office did not have more details of Sam’s operations.
