Digging Never Stops in M’luru! Now It’s MCC Turn to lay Water Pipe
Mangaluru: One thing for sure, that you’ll all agree with me is that-Digging of roads/streets/bye-lanes will never stop in Mangaluru no matter what- and we have seen it and will see in future too. Without proper planning, new roads are constructed, and after a while, the new roads are dug to lay cables- few months ago the whole stretch of City street from Karavali Circle (Kankanady Pumpwell) till Hamilton Circle was to install new 33-KV power cable, a project of Mangaluru Electricity Supply Company (Mescom). This initiative has been taken up by Mescom due to frequent disruptions in power supply due to bad weather, falling off tree branches, and other reasons. Although Mescom had completed their work, they have still not fixed the dug up holes or put the interlocks in their original condition.
Later MCC also took up a work to lay a water pipe on Balmatta Road between Liquid Lounge Pub and Crystal Arc building on Balmatta Road- although the work has been completed the workers have left back a mess, by not fixing the dug up areas back to its original condition. And to these incomplete and shoddy work of MCC, pedestrians have to bear with all these inconveniences and also create traffic snarls which is an added nightmare.
And now once again, MCC workers, who are from North Karnataka, are working on yet another water pipe laying project on Falnir Road stretch, all the way from Hampankatta Circle to old Platinum theatre. They are near to completion of the work, but if you look at the mess left behind by these workers is horrible. Interlock bricks are piled up high at the street corners, never put back after digging the area; even the drainage in front of Konkan Traders/opposite Milagres Church was dug to lay the pipes, and now after the pipes had been laid, the workers have not leveled the drainage area, instead left it with loose mud-and in case of sudden rain, all the mud and slush water will fill the nearby shops or overflow onto the streets. What a shabby and shoddy work. Dear Mayor, please go and have a look-you’ll be surprised?
Yes, development work is needed- that is for sure. But proper planning should be done, which is lacking here. And also once the dug work is done, MCC engineer should see that the dug up area is put back to its original shape and not leave it incomplete and shabby. Now that the stretch of this Falnir road/footpath has been dug, it will be a long long time before they are fully restored to the original condition- and that has been the situation in the past and will also be in future too? Bah humbug!
