“Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action, into that heaven of freedom my Father, let my country awake” – Rabindranath Tagore.
Mangaluru: Unperturbed by the torrential rains over the last few days, and with the option to attend the flag hoisting ceremony voluntarily, the MCCS family came together in large numbers to celebrate the 71st Independence Day of a great Nation – INDIA, with the waves of patriotic passion rippling in the spirit of students, staff and parents.
The Principal Sr. Melissa A C escorted the Chief Guest Sr. Marie Lucy A C along with Joint Secretary Sr. Maria Jyothi A C and PTA Vice President Mr. Ryan Lobo towards the flag post accompanied by our school band. The flag was ceremoniously unfurled by the chief guest, to the tune of the National Anthem, followed the Tiranga song. The Head Girl Larrel Coutinho administered the pledge.
The students Hashir Suleiman and Nicole Lasrado ignited the programme with a heartfelt welcome. God’s presence was invoked with gratitude for an Independent India and for today’s sunshine. Sr. Melissa accorded a heartfelt welcome to the Chief Guest of the day, Sr. Marie Lucy. She warmly welcomed and acknowledged the presence and patriotism of students and parents despite the holiday being declared.
The Chief Guest Sr. Marie Lucy in her message gave a short flash back of how the British entered, invaded, ravaged but also, to a certain extent, developed the country. She highlighted the sacrifice and the blood of the martyrs which gave us freedom and independence. She urged the students to use this freedom for the growth of human development. A heart-rending minute’s silence was observed as a tribute to the slain martyrs and soldiers. “For what is the flesh of youth, if it is not of service to the motherland” – Chandrashekar Azad.
One could see the patriotism coupled with joy on the faces of the Management, students, parents and staff. Clarissa of class IX delivered the vote of thanks.
