Disabled Man wants to Produce Power from Human Excreta
A Differently-abled man named Venkatapathi aged 43, hailing from Kolar, but now settled in Panambur-Mangaluru has ideas where power could be generated from human excreta (faeces and urine), but the sad part is that no one is coming forward to assist him and do further research in this regard. Speaking to Mangalorean.com, this would be Mechanical Engineer reveals the complete story of his journey so far, including his efforts in communicating with PM Narendra Modi to grant him his BE Mechanical Engineering Certificate.
Mangaluru: His name is Venkatapathi KM, aged 43, son of Late B Munikrishna and Late Akkiyamma, hailing from Doddurkarpanahalli Village in Kolar District- and this morning, Friday, 13 May 2016, he decided to address the media persons about life journey and all the hardships that he had faced surviving so far, where he also said that he was on the verge of committing suicide being depressed and frustrated over life. His life was completely shattered when he met with a motorbike accident which left him disabled, with the loss of 75% of his eyesight. During the press meet, he was joined by his friend Dr Aravind from Surathkal, who had helped Venkatapathi during financial problems, and he still continues to support Venkatapathi. Dr Aravind, a good Samaritan, we should say!
Life wasn’t a happy one for Venkatapathi, since his uncle and aunt started to create some misunderstanding between them, and when his dad passed away, his caretakers threw him out of their house. When he wanted some financial help to buy food and shelter, none of his relatives came forward, but still Venkatapathi managed to continue with his studies, begging here and there, and with great difficulty he finished his final year with some pending subjects of his previous semesters in 1996. He still continued appearing for his pending papers till 2001, and he survived by begging.
When he was unable to complete all his pending papers, he got so upset that he wanted to commit suicide, but luckily his friends convinced him not to take that drastic step, instead work somewhere, earn some money and later complete his pending exam papers. He got a job as a site engineer at Fiza Developers Pvt Ltd in Chitradurga, but unfortunately he got into a terrible motorbike accident, which resulted in 75% loss of his eyesight making him a disabled person. He is yet to get compensation from the other party involved in this accident, with the case is still in court.
Venkatapathi says he still had a chance of completing his pending papers in the year January 2004, June 2004, January 2005 and June 2005. Since he was unable to finish his papers due to certain circumstances, he had written a letter to PM Narendra Modi explaining his whole life story, and kindly requesting PM to provide him with a BE Mechanical Engineering Certificate from National Institute of Technology-Surathkal (earlier KREC), on Humanitarian Basis. In his letter to PM, Venkatapathi has quoted ” Your highness, I know you are a man of Human Welfare and Social Justice, which is stated all around the country. So I humbly request you to consider my problems and help me out in receiving my BE certificate.”
In response to the letter addressed to PM on 8 February 2016 about his issues, Venkatapathi got a reply from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dept. of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India stating that , ” This is with reference to your petition dated 8.2.2016 on the subject matter received through PMO vide Id No PMOPG/D/2016/0040247 dated 16.2.2016. In this regard, you are requested to approach the concerned authorities of Department of Education in the State. A copy of your petition is being sent to Dept. of Education, Govt. of Karnataka for quick and necessary action”. On receiving this information, Venkatapathi had already approached the State department of Education, but until now he hasn’t got any positive reply, but he is hoping for the best. At present Venkatapathi has been employed by NMPT as a peon based on his PUC education and disability, and they have provided him with free food and shelter, for which Venkatapathi says that he is very grateful to the management of NMPT, for providing him with a job, food and shelter which is essential for everyone on this planet.
Speaking further to Mangalorean.com on his ideas to generate power from human excreta, Venkatapathi said, ” Even though this idea of mine which can produce power from human excreta, which would also benefit the economy of the country, but sadly no one wants to listen to me and take this initiative of mine seriously by doing further research. I have already discussed this plan with officials at Mangaluru University, Manipal Institute of Technology-Manipal, and Nitte College of Physiotherapy-but all my efforts have gone in vain. Even though some of these folks are agreeing and showing some interest in my project, but no one is coming forward to lend a helping hand.
As per Venkatapathi, human excreta can generate power which is essential for daily use in households. Even fuel can be produced out of human excreta, which can run vehicles, and also that after extracting power and fuel from human excreta, the remaining waste could be used as manure for agriculture. But sadly no one has come forward or put any efforts in generating power from human excreta” says Venkatapathi. Expressing his concern over the damage caused to the ozone layer due to over-dependence on petrol and diesel, Venkatapathi says, ” This damage is a severe threat to the existence of all creatures. Instead of ignoring my plans of generating power from human waste, someone can provide me a land and infrastructure to carry on with my ideas. I am confident that I can do wonders and find a solution to the damage being done to the ozone layer”.
