Addressing the gathering, Lobo said, “To maintain law and order we need the police force. The Home Guards is an Indian paramilitary police force. It is a voluntary force, and are disciplined soldiers. Discipline is important in every aspect of life in order to be successful, it allows one to have power and control in life. If there is no discipline in a country, such countries will not prosper. In the civilized society, we need discipline which in turn will help in the development of the country. Mangaluru was known for hospitality but in the recent years, due to communal issues, people are hesitant to come to Mangaluru and invest here. If a person has real concern for the development of the country, he/she will surely work for it. But if a person does not have discipline he /she will always create violence. Self-discipline is one of the most important and useful skills everyone should possess. This skill is essential in every area of life, and though most people acknowledge its importance, very few do something to strengthen it.”

He further said that the home guards serve as auxiliary to the police and they help in maintaining internal security. They also help during natural disasters. The home guards have dedicated their time to the society and we need to encourage them. When the home guards perform their duty with discipline, they need to be disciplined at home too. If we are disciplined at home, we can create a disciplined society.

Director of KSRTC Sudheer speaking on the occasion said that the salary of the Home guards is very less. So the youth do not show interest to join the Home guards. If the government will increase the salary for the home guards more and more youth will join. The home guards are doing a wonderful job and we all should appreciate them.

6 home guards were felicitated on the occasion by MLA J R Lobo for their contribution towards the society. District Commandant of Home Guards Dr Murali Mohan Chuntar and others were also present.
