Dist administration should prepare to address drinking water issues – Maheshwar Rao
Manipal: The District administration should be prepared to address the drinking water issues said District in-charge secretary and Secretary of the Agriculture Department M Maheshwar Rao. He was speaking after a review meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office, Rajathadri, Manipal here on March 10.
Rao reviewed the plans formulated for the supply of drinking water and the work implemented to solve the drinking water issues in water scarcity areas. The officials of the City Municipality Council, Panchayat Raj said that the water supply through tankers is yet to be commenced.
The scarcity of water will be high in the month April and May. 8 bore wells and 9 open wells are reserved for supplying drinking water in the Udupi municipality areas. The government of Karnataka has released rupees 108 crores for the construction of a dam in Simbra which can solve the water scarcity issues. CMC commissioner urged for an additional sum of Rupees 50 lakhs for supplying drinking water.
There is no drinking water problem in Kundapur, Karkala, Saligrama and Kaup. Maheshwar Rao instructed the officials to take the wells on rent for the supply of drinking water. There are 131 villages facing problems of water scarcity; PRED officials should effectively function in addressing the drinking water issues. He ordered the PRED officials to complete the given targets on time.
Maheshwar Rao instructed the officials to submit the report on NABAD projects through the deputy commissioner. Officials said that Rupees 4 core has been utilised for 87 projects while the proposal has been sent for Rs 12 crores.
The seed production should be effectively planned. Private companies should support seed production in the district.

If the Udupi district administration wants to use our well then they can do so. We normally have enough water until beginning of rainy season.
