Mangaluru: In a heartfelt tribute to the spirit of altruism, the district administration is set to host a memorial event on January 26, coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations, to honor the family of a deceased organ donor. This significant occasion aims to recognize the extraordinary generosity and selflessness exhibited by individuals who have made profound contributions to the lives of others through organ donation.
The family of Asha Gloria Rodrigues, a promising 23-year-old academic who tragically lost her life due to an unforeseen health crisis that led to brain death. Asha, the only daughter of Gration Alex Rodrigues and Gretta Flavy Rodrigues, was a well-respected figure in the community. She distinguished herself as a talented student, completing both her undergraduate and postgraduate education in commerce at St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru. Following her academic achievements, Asha took pride in her role as a lecturer at her alma mater, inspiring and guiding future generations.
In a remarkable act of compassion during an unimaginably difficult time, Asha’s family decided to donate her eyes, skin, liver, heart, lungs, and kidneys to Father Muller Hospital in Kankanady. This selfless choice exemplifies the profound impact that one individual’s passing can have on many lives, ensuring that Asha’s legacy continues to foster hope and renewal for those in need.
The tribute ceremony, scheduled to take place at Nehru Maidan, will be attended by Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Health and Family Welfare Minister, who also oversees the Dakshina Kannada district.
