Distribute Medical Aid to Deserving Patients on Time – Dr Shankar Advices DMO

Mangaluru: Nadoja Dr G Shankar distributed medical aid to Cancer patients at the Wenlock Hospital Paediatric Block here on October 4.

DMO Dr Rajeshwari Devi welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Nadoja Dr G Shankar by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Addressing the gathering Dr G Shankar said, “I am celebrating my birthday in a special way by distributing medical aid to the needy patients. This is not a celebration but is a day to console those who suffer from Cancer and Kidney disease. I came from a very poor family. I feel sad because many people including small children suffer from cancer. We have developed in every field but so far doctors have been unable to find the cure for cancer. We are just depending on radiation therapy and chemotherapy which is taking the patients to the deathbed. Cancer is curable but patients should be strong.”

Nadoja Dr G Shanaker further said, “DMO has already said that many patients suffer from cancer and the family members are unable to take care of the patients. We need to start a palliative care centre. In Udupi we have started the Palliative care centre, I will surely help to start a Palliative care centre in the Wenlock Hospital after discussing with the ministers. My advice is to the DMO is not to make a show off since 22 DDs have which I had given with my hard earned money last year to be distributed to the patients have returned. I am really sad because the Demand drafts that I had given returned without being distributed. If such a situation continues I will bring this matter to the notice of the Chief Minister and district minister in-charge and health minister. We don’t need a lobby in the hospital, whatever we are giving is for the poor patients should be distributed to them. Wenlock is a very good hospital where work should be done with integrity. When I had asked for the list of poor patients, there was a delay in providing the list, I had to ask ADC Kumar to provide the list. There are good doctors like Dr Saldanha, Dr Shivaprakash and Dr Dhamayanthi here. When we are providing help, it is your duty to find the patients and provide me the list. If you repeat the same mistake and discriminate in providing help to the patients I will surely take action”, Dr G Shankar warned.

Nadoja Dr G Shankar said, “I am ready to start a Palliative care centre here if you can take proper care of the centre. Wenlock is a good hospital and it is your duty to maintain it well. Cancer patients should not be discouraged.”

Nadoja Dr G Shankar cut the birthday cake on the occasion. Cheques were distributed to the deserving patients.
