District Admin Holds Jana-Mana, Releases Sadaneya 4 Varshagalu

Mangaluru: The district administration in association with Zilla Panchayat and the Information Department organized “Jana Mana”, an interaction between the district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai and the beneficiaries of various governments schemes at the Town Hall here, on September 27.

The programme began with the State Anthem. ADC Kumar welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Ramanath Rai by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais. A book, “Nudidanthe Nadediddeve, Sadaneya 4 Varshagalu” was released by Ramanath Rai on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Ramanath Rai said, “During the elections, Congress party in its manifesto had promised 168 programmes and most of them have been fulfilled. The Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah started the Anna Bhagya scheme with the intention to uplift poor families socially and economically. Earlier, the scheme had started with Rs 1 per kg of rice and was later revised to distribute 30 kg of free rice per month for the BPL families. Now each person in the family gets 7 kg of rice per month. The intention of the state government is to make Karnataka a ‘Hunger-free state’. He also said that the Vidyasiri scheme is to help the backward class and the meritorious students to pursue their education. Sometimes girls do not get a chance to join the hostels, in such situations, a stipend of Rs 1500 per month is given to them to help them solve their boarding and lodging problems.

Rai further said that the state government has brought many schemes for the people of the state, Vidyasiri, Matsya Ashraya Scheme, Shaadi Bhagya, Arogya Bhagya, Yashashwini, Khseera Bhagya, and many other schemes. Under the Vidyasiri scheme, the state government will pay a stipend to meritorious and Backward Class students who do not get boarding in government hostels. The stipend of Rs 15000 for 10 months will be transferred directly to the student’s bank account. CM Siddaramaiah has fulfilled all the promises which he had made during the elections. The Dakshina Kannada district has greatly benefited from all these schemes.

Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza speaking on the occasion said, “After the Congress government came to power in the state, various schemes have been implemented for the welfare of the people. The state government led by CM Siddarmaiah has fulfilled the promises mentioned in the election manifesto. I congratulate the state government for implementing various schemes which the least person in the society has benefited. Government work is God’s work and CM Siddaramaiah has proved it”.

Thereafter, a face to face interaction was held with the beneficiaries. Students, beneficiaries of Vidyasiri scheme from various colleges shared their experiences and said that they have very much benefited from this scheme and have been able to pursue their education by staying in the hostels. The state government has helped the backward class students as well as meritorious students who had dreams of pursuing their education by providing funds through the Vidyasiri scheme. The scheme should be utilized well and the beneficiaries should bring awareness among other students so that the poor and the marginalized will also get an opportunity to pursue their education under the scheme.

Under the Shoe, Bhagya students shared their experiences and said that the English medium students were wearing shoes along with the uniform and looking smart. But the government has provided the Kannada medium students with shoes so that they will not look different. After the Shoe Bhagya scheme in our school, all the students are looking smart. If the government will provide us sandals for use during the rainy season, it will be of much help and our shoes will not spoil in the rain, said a student. Responding to the demands of the students, Ramanath Rai said that he will look into their request and do the needful.

In the Ksheera Bhagya scheme, some students said that they want flavoured milk which the minister assured to provide from next academic year.

Former fisheries minister Abhaychandra Jain, DC Dr Jagadeesha, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, deputy Mayor Rajaneesh Kapikad, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, CEO ZP Dr M R Ravi and others were also present. —
