District Administration Celebrates 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Father of the Nation
Mangaluru: The district administration in association with Zilla Panchayat, Department of Information and Public Relations and Department of Kannada and Culture jointly organized the 150 Birth anniversary of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Purabhavan here on October 2.
The programme began with an invocation. Department of Information and Public Relations officer Rohini welcomed the gathering.
The programme was inaugurated by the District minister in-charge U T Khader by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Addressing the gathering Minister U T Khader said, “Today we are celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who is known as the father of the nation. Mahatma Gandhi is not only well-known in India but is also well-known throughout the world for his non-violent fight for the freedom of our India. There may now be changes but the teachings of Gandhiji are still taught in schools all over the country to inculcate good morality. Gandhiji taught us to live with simplicity and non-violence. Gandhiji not only fought for the freedom of our country but also taught nonviolence and sustainable living.”
U T Khader further said, “Today many are criticizing Gandhiji and his ideology but those who are criticizing Gandhi they should read Gandhiji’s books learn about his contribution to the country. Gandhiji means India and India means Mahatma Gandhi. It is the responsibility of every citizen to continue the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Through non-violence, Gandhiji taught us to fight against injustice. Youth and the children should inculcate the philosophy of Gandhiji. Children should read the books about Gandhiji, Ambedkar, and Ram Manohar Lohia so that they can fight for social justice. Those who are criticizing Gandhiji will surely talk about his ideology and philosophy one or the other day. I congratulate the district administration for organizing such a meaningful programme.”
MLC Ivan D’Souza, SP Dr Ravinkanthe Gowda and MLA Vedavyas Kamath also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Narendra Rai Derla delivered a talk on Gandhi Kalpaneya Grama Swarajya”. DC Sasikanth Senthil, CEO ZP Dr Selvamani, Police Commissioner T R Suresh, ADC Kumar, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and others were also present.
Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution towards India is beyond description. He dedicated his entire life with peace and non-violence in order to inspire millions of Indians to realize the importance of patience and perseverance that could convince our colonial powers to give us our legitimate rights of freedom.
