District Administration Celebrates 70th Independence Day
Mangaluru: The 70th Independence day was observed with a spirit of patriotism at the Nehru Maidan here, on August 15.
The district minister-in-charge B Ramanath Rai hoisted the Indian tricolour flag at 9:00 am. Later, he received the guard of honour.
Various teams including the Karnataka Reserve police, civil police, home guards, Traffic police, NCC, Scouts and Guides demonstrated a colourful march-past.
Addressing the gathering Ramanath Rai briefed on the development projects implemented by the State government. He also said that the government has fulfilled most of the promises which were made during the elections and mentioned in the manifesto.
Rai remembered the soldiers who laid their lives for the country while safeguarding the borders. He also said that we all should pledge to eliminate anti-social elements and need to be united in making our country strong. We need to create harmony and brotherhood by eliminating discrimination in the lines of caste, creed and religion and also retain our culture, traditions and various celebrations.
While concluding minister Rai said, “It is the duty of every individual to respect the national flag. We need to keep our surroundings clean and plant saplings for clean and fresh air. Let this celebration inspire us and instil in us the spirit of patriotism”.
Prizes were distributed to the winning team Milagres NCC Junior wing won the first place and NCC senior won the runners-up shield.
Minister Ramanath Rai flagged off the “Pragati Ratha”, (development chariot) which will travel throughout the district with the message of Independence
IGP Arun Chakravarthy, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA J R Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, Police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, SP Bhushan Borase, DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil, DCP law and order Shantharaju, Mayor Harinath, ZP CEO Sreevidya, ZP President Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Roy Castelino and others were also present.
