Addressing the gathering MLA Shakuntala Shetty said, “I have come here to participate in the Sri Krishna Janmashtami on time, but after seeing the crowd I am really pained. On the stage, it is written Kannada and Culture department but we do not have the culture of reaching the programme on time. We need to learn time management. Today we are celebrating the Sri Krishna Janmashtami, but there are very few people who have come for the programme, if we would have organised some other programme, a number of people would have gathered here. I welcome all the guests who are here to take part in the celebration”.

She further said, “Sri Krishna is the protector of women and girls. If any boy talks with girls we call him modern Krishna. People say that Krishna had 16008 wives, but I don’t believe it. I think Sri Krishna had rescued 16008 girls and while rescuing them, they must have called him, their saviour (Swami) but people have misunderstood it. If we say Sri Krishna had 16008 wives, it would have taken 43 years 3 months to meet all the 16008 wives. How could have he done all other work if it took such a long time to meet only his wives, we need to understand the reality”, she said.

“Sri Krishna is not Benne Kalla (steals butter), in reality, he was not stealing butter. Farmers were sending butter and milk to Mathura and Kamsa was eating the butter and drinking milk to become strong, I positively think that Sri Krishna was trying to avoid people sending butter to Mathura,” She stressed.

Sri Krishna has given a message to girls/women, “Being a girl or woman they should not bathe openly. He stole the saree of a woman when he was a small boy, and sat on the tree. Because he considered women and girls as holy and they should have bath within the four walls and not in the open pond. So he kept the Saree on the tree to make the woman understand that she should have bath in the bathroom”.

She further said, “We are seeing atrocities on women which is increasing day-by-day in the world. We need Sri Krishna to be born again in this world to protect women”.

MLA of North Constituency Moideen Bava said, “This is the first time the State government has decided to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami at the government-level. I congratulate the Chief Minister for giving us an opportunity to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami.”

He further said, “In the twin district, we celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami, in a special manner. Life is like a stage and we all are players, as long as we live on earth we need to act accordingly by following the teachings of Sri Krishna. He taught us unity and harmony. It is our duty to follow the teachings of Sri Krishna and keep our differences aside. When we celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami, we need to take a decision to live in brotherhood and harmony”.

CEO ZP Sreevidya, ADC Kumar, President Beary’s Sahitya Academy Mohammed Haneef, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir and others were also present.

A district or state administration sincerely committed to secularism should celebrate Id or X’Mas or any other festival of any other religion with equal fervor.
