District Administration Confers Rajyotsava Award on 30 Achievers
Mangaluru: To mark the Kannada Rajyotsava, the district administration held a procession of Kannada Bhuvaneshwari from Jyothi Circle to the Nehru Maidan where the Rajyotsava celebrations were held on November 1.
The Kannada Rajyotsava programme began with Naada geethe. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai hoisted the national flag and later inspected the colourful parade on the occasion. Delivering the Kannada Rajyotsava address, Ramanath Rai highlighted various developmental projects implemented for the progress of the Dakshina Kannada district.
Rai further said, “Despite Kannada being the administrative state language, there are many other languages spoken in the state like Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, and Lambani; even Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi and Telugu are prevalent in the state. The state is contributing to the development of all the languages”.
Briefing on the projects, Rai said that the government has taken all measures to promote Kannada in the district. “Now it is the duty of every individual to implement 100% Kannada language. The state government will not compromise in providing quality education to the Kannada medium students. Our aim is to build a progressive State and the government has already implemented people-friendly projects, especially for welfare and education.”
He also said that to use Kannada in Information Technology, Unicode software will be popularized. “The government will sanction Rs 50 lakhs to build Rastra Kavi Govinda Pai Hall in Manjeshwar, Rs 1 crore for Ratnakar Varni Study Centre at Mangalore University and Rs 5 crores will be sanctioned to develop Koti Chennaya’s birthplace in Padumalai, Puttur. The DC office will be moved to Padil, where land has already been identified.”Change of name from Mangalore to Mangaluru was announced by releasing the balloons with the placard “Mangaluru” by the District Minister-in-charge Ramanath Rai along with other dignitaries.
District Rajyostava awards were presented to 30 achievers by Ramanath Rai on the occasion. More than 400 Students from St Agnes School Bendur, Sacred Heart School Kulshekar, Capitanio School, St Mary’s School, Kerala Samajam, and various schools presented a cultural programme.
MLA Moideen Bava, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of Dakshina Kannada District, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, a number of dignitaries including Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, IGP Amrit Paul, Police Commissioner R Hitendra, SP Dr Sharanappa, CEO Zilla Panchayat Tulasi Maddineni, Mayor Mahabala Marla, Deputy Mayor Kavita, ZP President Asha Timmappa Gowda, and other officers were also present.
