District administration Observes 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Ambedkdar
Udupi: The district administration, Zilla panchayat and City Municipal council jointly organised the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar at the Ambedkar Bhavan Adi Udupi here on April 14.
The programme began with an invocation; Premanath District Social Welfare officer welcomed the gathering. Vinay Kumar Sorake district minister in-charge inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and also released a book brought out by Information and broadcasting department on Ambedkar.
In his inaugural message Vinay Kumar Sorake said that Ambedkar had always believed in the concept of egalitarianism. Raising voice against the social evils such as untouchability is the true respect paid to the great soul. Caste disparity and inequality are dreadful evil practices that have segregated the society. The principles laid down by Ambedkar should be practiced, he added.
Ambedkar always focused on moral values and education for rational thinking. Ambedkar proposed to eliminate caste and class system, there was a need for a revolution to uphold the values preached and practiced by Ambedkar, he added.
In his presidential message Pramod Madhwaraj MLA Udupi said that Ambedkar did not want the upliftment of only Dalits but he strived for the welfare and growth of all people irrespective of caste, creed, and religion. The Adi-Udupi Ambedkar Bhavan has been renovated at a cost of Rs 44 lakh. A sum of Rs 3.5 crore has been sanctioned to build an Ambedkar Community Auditorium in the district, he added.
Dr Rajendra Nayak principal of Laxmi Soma Bangera government first-grade college Kota Padukere delivered a special talk on Dr Ambekdar’s life and his achievement. Cheques for various government schemes were distributed on the occasion. Dr R Vishal Deputy commissioner administrated the oath on Ambedkar Jayanthi.
Veronica Cornelio chairperson of Karnataka soaps and detergent, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje and Sandhya Thilakraj president and vice president of Udupi CMC, Priyanka Mary Francis Chief Executive officer of Udupi Zilla Panchayat were present on the occasion.
Well, I read this article and the celebrations held in Mangalore on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversay of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. From the pictures, I have seen many people gathered on this occasion. However, I wonder how many people know anything about Dr. Ambedkar.
